Sculptra or polylactic acid is an injectable liquid designed to stimulate new collagen formations from existing collagen producing cells in your skin. As its name implies it can help to sculpt certain regions of the face.

It is commonly used over the cheeks and over the jawline to help improve volume and support the deep structures, lifting the chin and reducing the sagging appearance. In addition it is often used to help with hollowing in the face that can sometimes give us a gaunt look. Once the Sculptra solution is injected under the skin it slowly spreads through the injected area and is assisted by gentle massage following the procedure.

After a period of 6 to 9 months the liquid particles that are injected into the skin dissolve completely leaving no trace of any residue or product in your skin. However, what does produce a long lasting effect is the new collagen you have grown.

This process is repeated generally in six-week intervals for at least 2 to 3 treatments. By the end of three months most people can appreciate the difference in their appearance and by six months are starting to see the true benefits of this treatment.
